John Laing, the specialist investor in and manager of infrastructure assets, has achieved financial close on the Burton Wold onshore wind farm situated near Kettering, Northamptonshire. John Laing is 100% investor in the facility after working with developer First Renewable Ltd to acquire the project from the landlord shareholders in June.

The plans for the onshore wind farm have been developed by First Renewable Ltd following the successful application of enhanced planning permission for the site in August 2012. Once completed, the 9 GE 1.6X100 turbines will have an installed capacity of 14.4MW and it is anticipated that the facility will generate enough renewable energy to power over 11,000 homes.

Ross McArthur, Managing Director of Renewable Energy for John Laing, said: “We are delighted to have achieved financial close on Burton Wold wind farm and look forward to working with our partners to help deliver clean, renewable electricity to communities across the UK”.

Winvic has already begun work on the supporting site infrastructure, and grid connection to the electrical substation is planned for December. The turbines are planned for installation in mid 2014 following which turbine operations and maintenance will be delivered by GE Company. It is anticipated that the project will be fully operational in late August 2014.

BL Wind Ltd, the development company for the construction of the wind farm, is also working with Cranford St John and Burton Latimer parish councils to establish a Community Trust, to which the project will contribute to provide economic, social and environmental benefits to the local community.
