John Laing Group plc (“John Laing”) is a responsible investor and active manager of infrastructure projects around the world. John Laing creates shareholder value through investing in sustainable greenfield infrastructure projects, and by actively managing these projects through construction and into operation.

We are pleased to announce the completion of the Sydney Light Rail project with certification provided for the design, construction, testing and commissioning of the project as well as timetable improvements made in June that provide improved passenger services.

The timetable changes were made possible by initiatives applied following the start of passenger services on the L3 Kingsford Line in early April 2020. Testing of these initiatives was successfully concluded and certified on 3 July 2020. This is a significant milestone for the network and its customers who will benefit from the improved timetable changes.

“The certification and timetable improvements are a testament to everyone in the team,” said James Bramley, Asset Director for Major Projects. “This has been a complex and challenging project, involving a large number of stakeholders and agencies, including the business and residential communities of Sydney. John Laing’s experience in active and collaborative project management has helped to keep this project moving, resulting in successful opening of the final leg earlier this year.”

The L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines have 12km of tram tracks, 19 stops and are serviced by 30 coupled sets of trams across some of Sydney’s busiest districts, including the Central Business District.
