Hornsdale Wind Farm was constructed in three-phases. John Laing acquired a 30% stake in phase 1 in 2015, which was followed by the acquisition of a 20% stake in each of phase 2 and phase 3 in 2016 and 2017. Powered by 99 Siemens wind turbines, the first 32 turbines became operational in late 2016, with the remainder following in mid- to late-2017.

Located near the South Australian town of Jamestown, 200 kilometres north of Adelaide, the combined output of three wind farms is 316.8 MW, and generates approximately 1,050GWh of clean energy per annum. All three phases are underpinned by long-term power purchase agreements with the Australian Capital Territory, making an important contribution to the Territory’s commitment to invest in environmentally and economically sound energy production.

Hornsdale Wind Farm formed part of the Group’s Australian wind farm portfolio which it successfully divested to First Sentier Investors as part of a transaction agreed in 2020 and completed in early 2021.
